Stiffeners, Posts, Columns, Beams & Connection Plates

The steel parts that hold a balcony, a deck or a porch together, made to order in Concord, North Carolina. Each one is explained below, with what to send us for its quote.

Looking for brackets? See the bracket applications.

Stiffeners

↑

Stiffeners are the steel bracers we use to secure the framing for our balconies, so the load of the balcony reaches the structure of the house.

They are made to fit the framing they reinforce: joists, rim boards or studs.

For the quote, tell us:

  • The balcony or load they support
  • The framing: joist or stud size and spacing
  • How many you need
  • Photos of the framing, if it is open

Posts

↑

Steel posts for decks, porches, balcony supports and railings, with their base and cap plates.

Made to the height you need, drilled for your connections and finished to match the rest of the project.

For the quote, tell us:

  • The height and the load of each post
  • What sits on top and what it stands on
  • The finish (painted, powder coated, galvanized)
  • How many

Columns

↑

Structural steel columns carry beams, decks and balconies down to the footing, where a wood post is not enough.

Square or rectangular tube or wide-flange shapes, with base plates ready for anchors.

For the quote, tell us:

  • The height and the load
  • The shape you prefer, if any
  • The footing or slab it stands on
  • Drawings or the engineer's specification, if you have them

Beams

↑

Steel beams for the spans wood cannot make: deck and balcony framing, openings and headers.

Cut to length, with the holes and connection plates your framing needs.

For the quote, tell us:

  • The span and the load
  • How it connects at each end
  • The size from your plans, if you have it
  • How many

Connection Plates

↑

Connection plates join the structure together: base plates, cap plates, splice plates, ledger and gusset plates.

Cut and drilled to your layout, in the thickness the load calls for.

For the quote, tell us:

  • The size and thickness
  • The hole layout (a sketch is enough)
  • What the plate connects
  • How many
